Čiurlionis 150th Anniversary

Čiurlionis 150th Anniversary

To mark the 150th anniversary of Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis, the Lithuanian Jazz Union is organising a series of twelve concerts, “Paskui Čiurlionį” (“Following Čiurlionis”), in towns and cities across Lithuania. Čiurlionis’s music will be interpreted and improvised upon by two of the country’s leading jazz musicians, Jan Maksimovič (saxophone) and Dmitrij Golovanov (piano). These concerts will be not only a journey through the work of a genius, but also a celebration of deep emotion and improvisation, presenting a cultural dialogue between classical music and contemporary jazz.

As we celebrate the 150th anniversary of M. K. Čiurlionis’s birth, his work remains a source of inspiration for many artists today. In the “Paskui Čiurlionį” concerts, jazz masters D. Golovanov and J. Maksimovič invite audiences to experience not only Čiurlionis’s music but also a new interpretation of it, which they reveal through the language of improvisation and contemporary jazz.

More information about the concerts can be found here.

The project is funded by the Lithuanian Council for Culture.
